MediaPortal Release Notes

The following items on the list encompass breaking changes, features, and fixes that are relevant for the major release.

Release 24.1.4

Breaking Changes

Requires Update to ConfigPortal Version 24.1.

Breaking Change: Config for Player Formats when Updating MediaPortal

To facilitate the configuration of supported video formats in the future, the type of the relevant property has been modified. Unfortunately, migrating existing values for this change is not possible and requires manual adjustment at the point of occurrence. After updating to version 24.1, the values for "Selectable Formats" must be reconfigured, as they will be overwritten with default values.

Step 1: Open the ConfigPortal to review the current configuration settings related to 'Selectable Formats.' By default, the available formats are set to 'original' and '__mp4' to accommodate the player's default preferences. If these values correspond to your requirements, there is no action required after deploying to a version later than 23.4. If the values differ, follow the steps below.

Step 2: Update MediaPortal to the recommended Version (as shown for VidiNet SaaS)

For Enterprise customers, this step is handled by the our project engineers.

Step 3: Open the ConfigPortal and select the supported format in the Format Section for the Player Settings.

Features

Playback of VidiEditor Projects

The MediaPortal now facilitates the playback of VidiEditor project timelines. Upon accessing the VidiEditor project, users will find a MEDIA tab, which automatically loads the latest project timeline. This feature enables seamless playback and scrubbing through edited content within VidiEditor, eliminating the necessity for rendering. For more information, see How can I view the content? | Playback-of-VidiEditor-Projects-via-Web-Render-Engine.

Progressive Download

In addition to the Streaming Server option, users now have the capability to configure Progressive Download. This entails configuring the VideCore WebServer to deliver video and audio content via HTTP. This streamlined setup minimizes resource usage and system complexity. However, it comes with a trade-off: certain functionalities such as growing file support, fast scrubbing, and multiple audio tracks are limited. Notably, the video intended for playback must be in MP4 container format to be compatible with this setup. For more information see, Player Config in MediaPortal | Progressive-Download .

Plugins

Enhance the functionality of the MediaPortal by leveraging its Plugin feature. This capability empowers users to incorporate custom code, enabling interaction with both the MediaPortal and VidiCore. Custom functionalities can be seamlessly integrated into designated areas such as tabs or full-page functions, accessible through the external app area. For more information, please see Plugins [MP OG] .

TwelveLabs LLM Integration

Enable natural language search through integration with a third-party service, Twelve Labs. This functionality facilitates synchronized searching with Twelve Labs, enabling users to formulate queries using natural language on a multi-modal search engine. Results can then be combined with other available metadata in VidiCore.

Please note that a separate subscription is required for this integration. Please reach out to your Vidispine project contact.
